My Summer Love...KENNY CHESNEY

The day I've waited all summer for has come and gone!! The Kenny Chesney concert was on Saturday!!  If you read the blog at all last week...you knew!  LOL

Kenny is a LONG day but the most fun day of the summer!!  KENNY IS SUMMER!!!

Headed to my sister's house Friday night to stay over so we could get right up on Saturday and get ready to go...an hour later than usual, but that's ok!  We met my other two sisters and brother-in-law's at the park and ride and after loading everything of theirs up in Meg's truck, headed out about 11:30.   This show is an all-day affair.  And when I say all day, I mean ALL DAY and into the next day!  The Stadium is in Jersey and us being from New York-it's a ride.

Getting to the show we hit a bunch of traffic.  But we knew was going to happen!  It ended up being ok though, because it was the hottest day of the year.  Like 95° and 120 in the sun HOTT!!  SO our shorter than usual tail gate was welcomed!!

By about 1:30 we made it into the parking lot and met up with my bestie Mel and her Dad who were also going to the show!!  Tailgated in the blistering heat til about 4:15 and headed inside.  Mel, Meghan and I do not like to miss an act.  We support them all!!  And when you have club seats with an air conditioned area, why not go inside when it's 110 out!!  Mel commented that she hadn't been this hot since our 4 days of concerts at CMA fest in 2009 when there was record-breaking, stay inside for your own health heat!! When even at 11 p.m. it was legitly 100°!!
Our crew!
(not really sure why I'm holding a football!!)

The show kicked off at 4:30 with Old Dominion, who was actually added to the bill!!  I really like them and couldn't wait to see them.  I love, love, love their song Break Up with Him. I actually blogged about it here! We were sad though that they didn't play their newest song, Nowhere Fast!
The Early Birds...Country's Biggest Supporters!  We love everybody!!

After Old Dominion was Cole Swindell. I like him a lot too.  And Mel, Meg and I have already seen him.  He opened for Luke Bryan Last September.  I love when the artist comes on and I can sing along to every song!  And he's GREAT LIVE!!!  We said when he had his own headlining show we are so there!!

After Cole Swindell was Brantley Gilbert.  I'm not gonna lie...I like him on the radio.  In concert, notsomuch!  A little too loud and hard rock for me!!  So during his set Meghan and I went to scope out the merchandise.  Which in all honesty we should have bought first thing when we went in and no one was around.  Because by that time almost everything was sold out!!   After walking across the whole place, back outside, and three booths later, I got a shirt and a koozie!!

By seven I was back in my seat for the rest of the night!  The show was a co-headlining tour for Jason Aldean and Kenny.  Mel and I have seen Jason Aldean before too.  She got us tickets for my birthday a few years ago!  (Clearly, the money that other people our age are spending on their kids, Mel and I spend on concert tickets!!)  He puts on a great show and played a good hour and a half.  Full show, complete with pyrotechnics and everything!

This one's for Leslie!!  :)

A little after nine KENNY hit the stage!!  And for two hours we were up dancing and singing along!  Just such a fun night!!  Kenny has a lot of new songs...he didn't play many of those.  But I feel like everyone at a Kenny show is there to hear the old songs!!

He's entered on this zipline chair thingy a few times!!  They leave the lights on for his safety!  HA!!

The show ended around 11:30.  We always stick around in the parking lot after the show to not have to be in the mad traffic that is getting 60,000 people out of the stadium.  So we ate snacks and listened to some more music!  By the time we headed out of the stadium is was a quarter to one!  And by the time we got home it was 3!  YIKES!!  Needless to say, we were all tired yesterday!  But another Sunday Funday was in store!!

But I think Happy Heart Day will have to wait for it's own post!!  So please come back tomorrow!!

I calculated that this is my ninth Kenny Show!!  YIKES!!  I love them all!!  Can't wait 'til next year!!  Fingers Crossed he tours!!

Show and Tell Tuesdays!

Today is Show and Tell Tuesdays with Andrea @ Momfessionals.  I didn't Link-up the last time because it was all about organizational tips and tricks!!  Of those, I have NONE!  But I learned a lot from the ladies who linked up.  But today I'm back!   It's a super, fun and thought provoking topic!

Groundhog Day: A day you'd like to live over and over again.

I had to think about it because I've had so many good days in my life!!  There have also been many I'd like to forget!!  HA! (And because I have the worst memory, I am sure there are even some great days I've forgotten!)  I've never been married, so I can't relive a wedding day.  I've never had a child, so I can't relive that.  Instead I thought about me...when was a day that I had some of the most fun or a day that I was most at peace being me!

I love traveling and Cozumel, Mexico is one of my favorite places.  I love the beach there. Sitting my ass in a hammock among the trees and feeling the sun on my face, with just my headphones on or a book in my hand,  is pretty awesome.  But I can and have relived that.  A few times actually!  And know I'll go back someday.

Instead, I thought I'd go with something that,  even though I'd like to live it over again, I can't because it was really was a once in a lifetime!!

The day/night that I'd like to live over again is July 18th, 2008.  This was the night that Billy Joel played the last ever show at Shea Stadium before it was torn down.  It was billed as the Last Play at Shea. AND I WAS THERE!  ON THE FIELD!

My bestie and I are pretty damn serious when it comes to our shows!  I remember that this show was announced and we knew we wanted tickets.  We tried and tried but failed.  Mel was pretty confident though that because the tickets sold out in like under a minute, another show would be added...and she was right!  So all those folks who bought their tickets for the Last Play at Shea on Wednesday night, July 16th, were not actually at the last show!!  The VERY LAST Play at Shea was that Friday!

Me, Mel and her friend Olson were all online and on the phone before the show even went on sale. Olson was the first one to score tickets.  On the field...in Section A, so we scooped those puppies up!!

The day of the show we headed into the city and got there early enough that it was still light out.  When they let us in, we explored the field and stadium!!  So fun.
Mel and I before the show started
Taking selfies before taking selfies was cool!!

I was on the field at Shea once before, believe it or not, when I was really young.  My friend from grade school and I created a poster for a contest and were able to circle the field with it.  I don't remember as much from that day, but it was in the Daryl Strawberry Era and our poster had all these people in the stands with Strawberry Heads.  My friend was a really great artist!  I do remember her doing most of the work, but it was pretty awesome that she picked me to go with her that day!!

Back to the Billy Joel Show....
As you can imagine, it was pretty insane!!!  We have seen Billy a few times but this was absolutely epic!!  This being the last show ever at Shea, it had to be!  Not only did we see Billy, we saw Steven Tyler and Roger Daltry (I wasn't as familiar with him I'll admit!)

AND GARTH BROOKS!!  For country music lovers like us, he was the ultimate!   Woo Hoo!! Now I know Shameless is technically Billy's song, but it's my favorite Garth song, EVER!!  When a man sings Shameless to me, then and only then will I know he's THE ONE. (Hence the reason I'm still waiting! HA!!).  But having Garth there singing Shameless with Billy Joel can not be beat!

But the fun didn't stop there....Tony Bennett was there, oh and just SIR PAUL MACCARTNEY!!! who made it there in the nick of time, from jolly ol' England! Police escort, planes swirling overhead, the whole nine!
The Beatles played the first concert ever at Shea, it was just right that he was there to play the last!!  The show actually ended with the Beatles classic, Let It Be!!  Both Crazy insane and beautiful!

Shea Stadium was torn down and CitiField was built across the way! Paul McCartney actually played the new stadium's first concert after it opened almost exactly a year to the day of the Last Play at Shea. And Billy Joel joined him on stage.  Mel and I didn't attend that show, but we have been to a show at CitiField...Dave Matthews Band and Zac Brown Band...not quite as epic!! But still fun!!

It's nothing that can be repeated for me...that feeling of being there in that place on that night!!  And I know I'll see Billy Joel again eventually, but that night indeed, was one in a million.

They actually ended up making DVD of the show Which I don't have but I probably should consider it, huh?!?

Have a great day!

My Summer Country Concert Series RECAP

FALL has officially arrived...although the daytime temps are still up there, it's great sleeping weather!  Even though I'm not actually doing much of that lately.  I have been back at work for a few weeks now and have realized I am totally slacking on the blog-front!  I really just can't seem to get settled into the year yet! I am a little overwhelmed, am doing a lot of after care, and like I said, am not sleeping!!  And people have noticed!  Don't you just love when people tell you " you look tired??"  Me either!!   HA!  The school nurse told me that since I no longer sleep, I am officially OLD!!  And to that I say thank you very much!!  UGH!!  But anyway...

I have teased a recap of my own summer concert series on the blog a few times and now that FALL is here and summer has officially come to an end (I'm typing and crying into my pumpkin ale!) I thought now would be as good a time as any!

Summer for me has always been a trip to the beach in North Carolina and one concert: Kenny Chesney!!! (It also used to be a cruise at the end of the summer, but since I've been on my own, it's been a few years since I've cruised!!) This summer, neither of those things came to be.  Kenny was not touring this summer and my family has decided to spend Thanksgiving down in the Outer Banks!

So I guess you could say that instead of one huge stadium concert this year, I went to SEVEN closer to home!!  I didn't really plan to go to seven, it just happened that way. And truth be told, it should have been 8, but I am still so upset about that one, I can't bear to discuss it!! HAHAHAHA!!

All of the shows were country!  It's my favorite type of music.  And I really do think more people like country these days than those that don't.  I like it because I can sing along!  And let me tell you...I sing along!  It's really cool too that we have so many venues close to home.  I saw shows at a local amphitheater, the beach, the Garden and the very first country show at the Barclays in Brooklyn!

The first show of the summer, May 30th, was Rascal Flatts, with Sheryl Crow and Gloriana at the Beach.  I had seen Rascal and Gloriana before but never Sheryl Crow so that was pretty much the highlight for me!  I went with my best friends. The bad news was that it rained and it might have been a little FREEZING...BOOOOO!!  But we made the best of it!

The next show was quite the surprise!  My mom ended up getting free tickets to the Band Perry at a local amphitheater, which we than ended up going to three more times!  A local radio station puts on a slew of shows there throughout the summer!!  The Band Perry was pretty freakin' awesome!  They were headlining the show that night and I got to see them again when they opened for Blake Shelton at the Garden on August 1st!

After the Band Perry at the amphitheater, we saw Darius Rucker and Joel Crouse (My sister's ABSOLUTE FAVE!!!) a little later in July. For Meghan, it was the best day ever!!  We met and had our picture taken with Joel!!  Meg took one by herself, then graciously let Mel and I hop in!  HA!!  And really, who doesn't love Darius?!?! HOOOOOTTTTIIIEEEE My pics of him were too blurry...thus un-blog-worthy!!

For my bestie and I it was part of a whole, 2 shows in a weekend, 3 in a week,  sorta deal that included Darius and Joel on Saturday night, Lady A with Billy Currington and Joel Nichols on Sunday night, and then later that same week, on Friday, our FIRST EVER BLAKE show at The Garden!!  And his first ever there!  He was AWESOME!!  Can't wait to see him when he comes around again!  And he sang Austin in a mullet....my night was made!!  My bestie and I realized that after three shows in a week (and two tailgates and a way too happy, happy hour before Blake, we might just might be a little to old for this!! (I might be crying again in my pumpkin ale!)   But in the words of Joel Crouse the week was EPIC!!
Yes, we were totally photobombed!  And then I photobomed some people...

After such a wild week, we got a break....until August 16th!  This time,  my entire family and best friends all went to see Little Big Town and Eli Young Band!  It was a fun time...and what would turn out to be my last show of the summer at the amphitheater. :(  Until next year Dierks!!

The last show of the summer was the biggest and most long awaited!!  Just this past Sunday I saw LUKE BRYAN at the Barclays! (With Lee Brice and Cole Swindell...who's new song I LOVE!!)  The first country show ever and my first show there!!  It was pretty amazing!!  And DAMN.... LUKE IS HOTTTT!!  Truth be told I've seen him before, but this show blew the other right outta the water!! We had the closest seats ever and I could swear Luke looked right at me a few times!! And then there was this....I mean really!!!

Unbelievable way to end an unforgettable summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think in 2015, the only show I'll be able to afford is KENNY!!! LOL

Thanks for reading and letting me share a bit of my summer with you!  Even if you aren't a country fan like me, I hope you found something in here to make you smile!

Now here's to FALL!!!  Skinny jeans, riding boots, infinity scarves...and the BLARDIGAN!!!
