Summer Bucket List!!

Today I'm joining in on the Summer Bucket List Linky Party with What the Teacher Wants.  The Mishaps and Mayhem of a Solitary Life has never been a teaching blog, but I thought since I am a teacher, I'd link up!  I read lots of teacher blogs and am forever amazed at all the fun things these teachers do and create. Case in point, the super cute bucket list template!!

This post is coming at the perfect time!  This week is my last week of classes with the kids.  Since there is no more book checkouts, after reading the book, I thought we'd do a little project.  I found THIS bucket list freebie on Teachers Pay Teachers for the kids to put together. You colored it based on a glyph and filled in the blanks on the writing part inside!  The kids LOVED doing this!! {Find more Teaching Heart goodies and follow Colleen Gallagher here and here!}

This was my example!

Oh and if you're wondering what book I chose to read as the final book (for 1st thru 3rd) it's Pete the Cat and the New Guy.  I know that's not quite the best "end of the year" book, but the kids love Pete and I tied it all together by telling them to have a "groovy" summer, be open to making new friends and read lots!!  :)

On to my bucket list..

School:
As far as school goals go, I will be working this summer...on a new School Website!!  Boooooo....just kidding...it's pretty cool actually but maybe that's just my inner nerd talking!!  It's been so much work and will continue to be so I'll be working and doing some PD on that throughout the summer.

I will also be spending those last two weeks in August back at school getting myself organized.  I've received a number of new books for the library these last few weeks. We had a book fair and this is the time of year parents begin doing their Spring Cleaning and bring in those donations.  Some might wonder why I'd leave this for back to school, rather than get it done now and be ready in August.  And in all honesty, the truth is...I'm tired!!  LOL  And there is so much end of year stuff to get done, that is seriously one thing that can wait!!

Personal:
This summer I really hope to read more!  Last year I hardly read at all!!  And I was really sad about it!!  I have lots of books on my Summer Reads lists!  I'm off to a good start already, having finally finished The Girl on the Train (why could I just not get into it?!?) and am reading The Single Woman and Nobody's Cuter Than You.  I am working on a Summer Reads post that will be up on the 26th! Come on back!

Another thing I hope to do a lot of is exercise.  Specially, I just want to walk around my neighborhood and on Main Street.  In the early morning and before the heat of the day.  I'm an early riser these days, so rather than sloth around the house, I thought I'd get out and WALK!  I'm going to do this at least three times a week!!  If I can manage more, fabulous!

After my morning walk, I'll be out there getting my tan on!!  Safely...I have too many sunspots not too!!  So it's SPF 45 on my face, a hat on my head, and a book in my hand!

FUN:
Lots of fun on tap for summer!  First of which is the Kenny Chesney Show!  After taking a year off, Kenny is back with his summer stadium tour. Last summer I went to 7 concerts, all of which were a huge amount of fun but I really just feel like KENNY is Summer!!  My family has been going to see Kenny since the the summer of 2007.  We even traveled to Boston twice!  It's a full  day of tailgating, music, and fun!!  Can't wait!

My town has something called Alive After Five on Thursday night throughout the summer.  Main Street is closed to traffic for 4 hours and bands play, vendors are out, and the bars and restaurants are packed...it's a great summer night out.  I went to one last year and wondered why I didn't go to more. I will get to more this summer!!

Another thing I WILL DO is get to the Oyster Bay Brewery!  I got a groupon for a tasting, free glasses, and a growler.  I have tried numerous times, with numerous people to get out there, and it hasn't worked out.  But my groupon is expiring soon! And if I can't even get to one, is it too much to hope I can get to two more!?!?!

Lastly, I hope to just enjoy some time with family this summer!  My cousins are coming to visit in early August, so my sister is having a get together at her house.  That should be really fun!  Living in Colorado, I haven't seen them in forever!! Maybe two three years!  So I'm really looking forward to this!!

Those are my goals for the summer!  What are yours?  Let me know in the comments below and head on over to What the Teacher Wants, to grab your template and link up too!!

Happy Summer!!!

A Super-Sized Weekend

I exhibited such bad blogger behavior last week...not posting at all!! Getting back in the game this week, with lots of great things lined up!!

A Super-sized Weekend Recap!

Starting off my weekend recap a little early, because even though I worked Friday, my weekend really began with Tim McGraw on Thursday night!! HA!!

Thursday after work I headed to the beach to see Tim McGraw. I took the train west and met up with my friend in the RVC. We grabbed sandwiches and bevs and drove the rest of the way to the beach. We actually ended up meeting and tailgating in the parking lot with her dad and brother for a bit, too.

The show started at 7 with a guy name Chase Bryant. We weren't as familiar with his songs. I knew only one! But I have to definitely download a few more. After that Billy Currington came on. We love him!! We've seen him a bunch of times as an opener. It's about time he headlines his own show. We'll be going to that for sure!! “God is Great, Beer is Good and People are Crazy!” No truer words...no truer words!!
Those are also the words on our new Billy Currington t-shirts we purchased...because we need another t-shirt like we need a hole in the head!! But like Mel said...”I don't have a green t-shirt”!! And then I thought...I don't have a t-shirt in this green! I am a little bitter over the fact that we were overcharged $5 for it though!! Too many people, too much pushing, etc...to really look at my receipt before signing, so technically...my fault!

These are not the best pics but...
Billy Currington

Tim McGraw

After the show, rather than rush to catch a super late train home, I stayed over at Mel's and took the train to work the next morning, I was a little late but since I didn't actually have kids until 10, it was ok. And literally, the train station is directly across the street for my school. So I was off the train and in the building in a minute and a half. The train was PACKED with people headed out to Montauk and to the beach for the weekend!!! I'm not gonna lie..I was jealous!! I wish I was going to Montauk for the weekend!! But I digress! Friday was the absolute hottest day yet here. Ick!! It's always the last two weeks of school that end up being the hottest. Thank goodness for AC in my Computer Lab!!

Friday night was the 8th grade graduation ceremony. So after not being home since Thursday at 7 a.m., I ran home, showered and got ready for that. My teacher bestie brought over dinner, we ate quick, got graduation ready and headed back to school! Graduation always turns out to be a beautiful affair (if not a tad bit long!). I love the music and the little touches that make it special and so “our school”! The students that graduated I've had for the last three years in Library and Tech and they were the last 4th grade class I taught. A good number of them also had siblings that I have taught! They are now in high school and some off to college! And way taller than me!!

During the graduation, my stomach stated hurting so, afterwards I headed home for a night of vegging on the couch. I actually caught up on the finale of my new obsession, Married at First Sight, and have to say I am happy with the results. I can't wait to see the reunion show tomorrow!

Saturday was a lazy day!! For some reason, I was up at 6! I really don't get it, I can not for the life of me wake up on weekdays when I actually have get up, but on the weekends, I am wide awake...so annoying!! It was cloudy in the morning, so I caught up on my blog-reading that I hadn't done in over a week, and started a new book! By noon, most of the clouds had burned off so I was able to speed a little time in the sunshine on my postage stamp patio (before it went over the house!). It was not enjoyable!! I was surrounded by bees. BIG ASS BEES!! They were surrounding my little trees in the back! Like a dozen of them. For the most part, they left me alone, flying from one tree to the next! I was stressed though because I am allergic to them!! Nobody believes me when I say this, but I am. When I was little, I got stung by a bunch of bees while walking down my pool deck. I must have hit their nest or something. They surrounded my, got in my bathing suit and everything! I got a number of stings, but way less than the number that surrounded me. Ever since then, when I've been stung, my vision goers blurry for a bit and I throw up. My family says this might just be nervousness and getting all worked up about them but I think that's not normal and I'm allergic!!

But anyway!! Back to the weekend!

I laid out a bit, got some thing's done around the house, then went out to read in the front when the sun hit there. I really had no plans!! Actually, I even posted this to Insta as my daily photo!

But around 6 my friend called and asked me if I wanted to go get dinner somewhere, so I went! It was a really fun time! I had a yummy dinner...open faced lobster ravioli! Sooo good!! Huge chunks of lobster and tons of it, with spinach. And I tried a new, awesome summer beer! Hell or High Watermelon! So yummy, with just a hint of watermelon. Very refreshing. I know that doesn't go with lobster ravioli, but I ordered it before I decided on that! :) Unfortunately, you can't really get it here
for purchase other than at a bar/restaurant. It's the 21st Amendment brewery, out of CA, so I will have to frequent this place a lot this summer!

Sunday was kind of a whirlwind day! I had plans to go to a local vineyard with my family, so my mom and niece came and picked me up in the morning! It took them an hour to get me (usually it only ten minutes away) due to a fatal motorcycle accident. On the way back home, be ended up getting a flat tire! Boooooo....it was a little crazy there for a while, but my brother-in-law came and rescued us... actually, just mom! Lauren and I walked to the Starbucks across the parking lot from where we made it to! Luckily, when it happened, we were getting off the exit and made it to a parking lot, 2 minutes from home! Now I realize, in hindsight, this was probably a bad idea leaving my mom, but I wanted to occupy Lauren...and we got mom her fave drink.  Actually, when we walked away a good samaritan started helping her! So I guess it was a win-win!

We finally made it to the vineyard and it ended up being a nice day! It wasn't too hot, we were shaded by trees and there was a guy there playing acoustic guitar...my fave.
My mom, sisters and I (Just missing Meg!)

A few hours of that on a Sunday, meant me starting my typical Sunday chores later!! But I was wiped so I only did lessons for today and one load of laundry! The rest can wait!

And here it is, Monday again!! Only one more to go!!

I have lots of stuff planned for the blog this week, including two link ups with my blogging buddies and a GIVEAWAY...so come on back!!!

I seem to be a day late and a dollar short these days....

It a Friday five on Saturday...because I just can't seem to get my act together this week.  I've been off! I was a day late in wishing my brother-in-law a happy birthday, forgot the Summer Challenge List was coming out AND  I broke my toe!! It's June!!  YAY!!  That means Summer Vacation is fast approaching.  And while that also means that there is so much to do before the end of the school year... it'll all be over soon!  Can't wait to get my tan on!

My sister and I made a super easy pasta dish over Memorial Day weekend and I loved it so much I made it this week for myself.  Basically I ate it everyday!!  HA!   Such an easy one pot meal!
Tortellini, can of diced tomatoes, pesto, and a bag of spinach- that's it!!

Monthly Rewind: My May in Numbers

I thought I try something a little different today!!  My bloggy buddy and fellow Style Me Blogger, Deena from Shoes to Shiraz posts a monthly "numbers" recap and it's a great read!  So I'm linking up today with Deena, Carrie and Lana who are hosting too, to rewind my May!!
So in no particular order, I present My May in Numbers!

Number of Miles traveled: 1,115  I was able to get away to Florida for Mother's Day weekend!  It was a trip!  You can read about it here!!  The trip allowed me 5 days with my parents this month!

Number of Days off: 3...two for my trip and one for the Memorial Day holiday!!

Number of meals eaten out10 That seems pretty high!  Yikes!!
And with that i should include I ate my first legit burgers since last summer!  Luckily, I split one with a friend the first time and had two mini sliders the next!  So I guess not too, too bad in the burger department.

On the flip side of that,  I only got 1 Hello Fresh delivery this month, so 5 legit  meals made myself! (3 Hello Fresh and 2 I was motivated to make!)  LOL

This was my fave meal of the month...maybe my all time fave Hello Fresh meal thus far!

Number of times I entertained at home: 2 For Cinco de Mayo and Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Number of Stanley Cup Playoff games watched: 12  Playoff hockey is just FUN!! Oh and 1 raffle won during a game when I watched it out the bar!! The Rangers may have lost the game that night, but I won big! Ummm...Not really though!!

Number of times I walked to work: 3....and was hit by the sprinkler...3!!!  I really could walk more but every time I walk, I'm kinda late!!  HA!!  Having my good friend swing by and pick me up in the morning, I know I have to be ready by a certain time.  And can get there in time to actually get things done!  (Thanks for all the rides Lindsay...And the iced coffees!!  Margaritas on me this summer lady!!)

Number of movies watched: 2 Still Alice and American Sniper Both On Demand (the cable bill is a bit more this month...eeekkk!!  I was kinda disappointed in Still Alice, but can absolutely see how Julianne Moore won Best Actress honors at everything.  The book is always better than the movie.  American Sniper I really liked but thought it was tough to watch.  Also based on a book actually, but I have never read it.  Maybe I'll pick it up this summer!  I watched more movies based on books than I read actual books.  I didn't even get through 1.  I mentioned numerous times on the blog that I intended to finish The Girl on the Train and STILL have yet to. WHY...WHY? Sad!  This summer, I fully intend to kick my reading into high gear!!

I mentioned here that I fell off my shopping ban pretty hard this month, so I thought I'd share some of those stats!  All of these are online purchases!

Nordstrom: 4 items purchased in total...3 returned!  And one I still have yet to receive. I even did one exchange and had to send that back too!!  booo....

Victoria's Secret: 3 online orders placed...7 coupon codes used!  1 freebie scored, numerous new pairs of undies purchased!  :)  This was my favorite purchase!

JCrew Factory: 2 orders placed...creating countless summer looks!  I may have to break up with JCrew Factory though, I feel like everytime I order from there I get a really great sale, BUT the very next day there's an even better sale!!  Hahahahaha...I was able to score a price adjustment for a few things by contacting customer service, so I'll keep him around a few more months!  HA!!

I also keep one item from my Stitch Fix box from this month.  See it {here}

I also discovered an shop in insta called Evadette Boutique, so I placed 1 order from there during the Memorial Day Sale.  i received my purchases from there and am really happy!  I will order from there again, for sure!

A few blog Stats:
Number of blog posts written: 10 {technically nine, but I wrote I quick post after losing an entire post in the blogesphere!!) ..as far as numbers go, this is the lowest since February!  I am hoping with school coming to a close, I'll have more to blog about this summer!

Post read the most in May: Another Challenge in the Books!

Post with the highest reach on Facebook: A Weekend Away!
The blog's FB page got a few new likes this month, but I have yet too hit 100 on there.  If you know anyone who would enjoy my random ramblings, please share my Facebook page with them! Thanks!!

Number of times I remembered to post about a new blog post on Insta: 4 but I posted 48 pics to Instagram this month.

I think that's about it!  Whew...thanks for sticking with me!!  That was fun...until next month!!

Dressed for a Cause

It's been awhile since I've done a What I Wore post.  So ahead of the Summer Challenge, I thought I'd mix it up a bit.  Yesterday, I wore orange in support of the first ever Gun Violence Awareness Day. Sometimes supporting a cause is more than just the money aspect.  It's about bringing awareness and conversation to it, too. Every time I hear of a cause having an awareness day, wearing a certain color or dressing in a certain way, I try to support and do my part.  My school has lots of days where we can pay to support a cause and wear the color of that cause.  So I do that too.  I thought today I'd share some of the looks and causes with you!  Some I've blogged about, others you may have seen on Insta and still others I haven't blogged or talked about.

This was me yesterday, June 2nd, #WearingOrange for Gun Violence.  I thought of so many who have been killed over the years due to senseless gun violence.  And all the kids in schools...Sandy Hook, Columbine, Virginia Tech, most recently, Marysville, WA....and so many more, unfortunately!!
I should get more sleep!  Ugh...

Earlier this year, on March 25th I supported Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day by wearing green.  I figured having CP, I needed  to support! HA! And in all honesty, this is the first I'd ever heard of it!  But now will continue to rock my green for CP every year! My bestie,  Mel and fellow blogger friend, JulieAnn, from Coach G's Wife, supported the cause along with me.

Last October, for Breast Cancer Awareness month, I wore pink every Friday.  I did a whole What I Wore blog about it here.

I've also supported Autism Awareness, wearing my Autism shirt form Counting on Hope! This is the most comfortable t-shirt EVER!!  I am eyeing another one too!!

During the Winter Challenge all the challengers got together and wore teal for a fellow challenger, Terri who has ovarian cancer.  Teal is the color of ovarian cancer.  This was my look!
Original blog post {here}

I've worn red for heart disease and woman numerous times and blue for World Diabetes Day and Domestic Violence Awareness.  Every cause I support, I support for someone I know, someone I love, or someone I miss.  There are so many causes I've missed out on supporting too.  But I'll add them to my calendar next year!!

And just for fun, I leave you with this...I rocked my red nose to help bring awareness to children in poverty, just last week.  The show on NBC was both heartbreaking and enlightening! #idonatedforfelix

Are there any causes you support that I need to know about?  PLEASE mention them in the comments below!

Have a happy Wednesday!!  The weekend's almost here!!  Woo Hoo!!
And come on back tomorrow!  I'm linking up with Deena for a little Month in Review post!!  My first ever...!!

Weekends are just my favorite...

Weekends are my favorite!!  Sunday nights?... not so much!!!  HA!  It's such a shame that the weekends go so fast.

As far as weekends go, I had a pretty good one!!  Friday, I worked late because I had to do After Care.  I usually don't do Fridays because I do it every other day of the week, but the Friday teacher had plans and asked me to cover so I did.  Unfortunately, I got home really late because a child was picked up an hour late.  Boooo...

I was getting nervous though, because I was having my sister, her boyfriend and my bestie over to watch game 7 of the Rangers Playoff game.  I walked in the door at 6:55 and my friend arrived at 7!  Good thing since we've been friends 32 years, she doesn't care if I leave her for a few minutes to go change and freshen up!  My sister and her boyfriend arrived in time for game time!!  We watched the first two periods here, then decided to to head into town to watch the rest at one of the bars.  This probably wasn't the best idea!!  From there the night went downhill.

Tampa Bay scored two goals in the third period, and the Rangers lost the game. #insertsadfacehere

Leaving the bar we had a plant thrown at us. (Like Seriously...Who does that??)  LOL...some stupid drunk idiot was throwing the plant at his girlfriend and it hit us instead. (She should dump him!) I thought there was gonna be a fight right there on the sidewalk but that was avoided!

After that, we headed down to another bar that just opened! It's a Tex Mex place and Tequila Bar. Here, the glass of  tequila slipped off their brand new, shiny, SLANTED bar!!  Crazy!  It really was a comedy of errors!  But we did say that we would go there again!  The food smelled really yummy!! And new places need time to find their footing!

Saturday morning my bestie and I headed to breakfast at another place in town!  It has the reputation for the best breakfast and did not disappoint.  I now wish though that I got something other than chocolate chip pancakes!!  But I'll be frequenting this place a lot this summer!!

After breakfast we actually went to an Open House at a a brand new complex in my town.  It'd be really cool if Mel lived in my town and there because it is so freaking awesome (and I could use her pool and gym...) but it's just too long of a commute to work for her!!

I seem to be talking about my town a lot in this post!  If you missed Friday's post about my neck of the woods, you can find it here!

After that we came back and spent some much needed time in the sun!!  After Mel headed home I stayed out and read until the sun went down.  When she texted me that she got home later on that night, I told her I actually fell asleep for a bit!  I really hope I didn't have my mouth wide open or anything because I was in my rocking chair...IN THE FRONT!! Eeeekkkk  But I did gets lots of color!  So YAY!

Today was not the best day for laying out but there are some peeks of sun, Every time I tried to sit out the sun went behind a huge cloud.  So I just gave up and came in.  It really was a lazy Sunday if there ever was one.  Sundays are my typical lessons and laundry day. I did none of that!!! Instead my ass was on the couch binge watching this....

Kinda cray people!!  But so addicting and really good.  I just couldn't stop watching!!  I'm invested...

So tomorrow I will have to just do my laundry and plan.  The only thing I'm really mad at myself for not doing is After Care admin work, because I know that gonna take a while. UGH!!  Not only am I am After Care teacher for the kids after school, I am also the Administrator of the Program!  LUCKY  ME!  But I don't think the parents will mind waiting a day for the bills!  HA!!

And is it weird that sometimes I feel like Monday is the better day to do things because I am already up, have worked and been motivated?!?  Like,  I think I'll be ok with spending 4 hours on my work tomorrow night because it's just a continuation of the work day!  Maybe I'm just making excuses for myself....

Oh and I may have treated myself to a little something before the Nordstrom Sale ended today!  And with double cash back on ebates!  I got this maxi dress.
I am worried, it's going to be long on me but figured it was worth a shot. Some of the reviewers who are my height said it was long and others said it was ok!  So I guess we'll see!  But the free returns are the beauty of Nordstrom!! I think this color will look great with a tan!!

Now it's already 11 p.m. on Sunday night!!  YUCK!!  I'm off to bed!!  Hope everyone has a fabulous week!!

This place I call home...

I'm really excited about today's Style Me Bloggers topic!  I'm going to tell you a little bit about my hometown!  If you've been following my blog for any amount of time, you've read about my adventures in buying a home and my solitary life in this new (or at least new to me!) town.  A big reason I began blogging was to document my living alone for the first time.  Read my first ever post here!

It's rare that I leave my little 3 mile radius.  LOL I live in walking distance of the school that I work at, the train station, and right down the road from Main Street!  (I just love that I live in a town with an actual Main Street!!) It works for me!l!!  And my town is so much fun!! Lots of shopping, restaurants, concerts, the Beach and the Great South Bay! I've blogged about some fun things I've done in town here and here.  It really is one of my favorite places and just pretty perfect for me!!!

But since I know not many people will know my town itself, I thought I'd tell you more about this Island that I live on instead!! Long Island may ring a bell for some of you.  When people hear Long Island, lots think of the Hamptons (Thank you Kardashians and Revenge!).  I DO NOT live there...LOL

I've lived on Long Island in the state of New York for my entire life. Long Island is that "fish-like shape that hangs off of New York on a map!  And YES, Deena we are actually an island...surrounded by water on all sides.  We stretch out into the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Long Island Sound on the other.  Long Island is so large and overpopulated, we could be our very own state...we are bigger than many states actually!!  Long Island consists of four counties, from West to East. Brooklyn, Queens Nassau and Suffolk.  Because Brooklyn and Queens are considered boroughs of New York City, a lot of people just count Long Island as Nassau and Suffolk.  And  Montauk Point truly is THE END.

Long Island has beautiful beaches both on the North Shore and the South Shore.  I live on the South Shore.  Our beaches are smooth.  The North Shore is more rocky. There are 150 beaches on the Island, including Fire Island...just a short ferry ride away.

Jones Beach is in Nassau County, further west, from where I live, but it's a  place I visit in the summer for both sun and fun.  The Theatre at Jones Beach is the only concert venue right on the beach.  When I saw Kenny Chesney there a few years ago, high tide came right up under the stage and all the people in the first row sections got soaked.  Kenny said he had never seen anything like it. I went to a bunch of concerts there last summer and am going back in two weeks to see Tim McGraw!  It's sure to be a lot of fun!  There is also smaller outdoor amphitheater further out east where lots of my country faves play!  Last summer I went to tons of shows at both venues and had a blast.  Read more about that here!

Long Island is very historical, too.  The homes of President Roosevelt, Poet Walt Whitman, painter Jackson Pollack and the Vanderbilt Family are here.  The Long Island Children's Museum, Old Bethpage Restoration Village and the Long Island Aquarium, Planetarium and the Long Island Game Farm are super fun and educational places to visit.  Ok, the teacher in me is coming out...

Long Island has a number of wineries on the North Fork and the South Fork.  It is fun to spend the day wine tasting and listening to music at the different wineries in the summer.  The number of Craft Beer breweries on the Island has grown too!!  Blue Point is probably the most widely known, but there are breweries in Oyster Bay, Greenport, Riverhead and Montauk, just to name a few.  My town alone boasts 2!!  And I can't wait to make my first visit to the Oyster Bay Brewing Company this summer!!  Whoop! Whoop!!

For me, Long Island really is an ideal place to live.  But if your looking to get off the Island for a while, the City is just a train ride away and Connecticut and Massachusetts are just a short ferry ride in the other direction, so it's really convenient!!  Come Visit Soon!! :)

Can't wait to link up with the other girls today!!  Join us!!

Have a wonderful Weekend!!
