This may not be the best time to start blogging again....

Now I realize that I am one of the lucky ones!  Here I sit in front of my computer in my little apartment that has power and cable and all those good things that millions of people have been living for days without!  And will continue to live without for the next few days, given this God awful Nor'Easter that is happening as I type.  It is a bit ridiculous what is going on!!
And of course I realize this may not be the best time to start blogging again in light of Sandy and her aftermath but I figured if I can brighten at least one person's day with my silly stories, I'll be happy.

What did we learn today???  Miss Mitchell is NOT a music teacher!!!!!!!!!!  But I am a team player, so for one period, I dusted off my singing voice...(that is rarely used, except for the occasional time alone in the shower and in my apartment) and sang!  The little kinders first looked at me like I had 8 heads, but then they joined in!  And hey, it was a great excuse for Albuquerque Turkey to make a comeback!!  :)

I also realized that my lil piece o' shit cell phone can't handle a 4 hour webinar!!!  And that I myself could teach the thing!!  Just another check in the pro column for the iPhone!!  SOON....SOON!!!!!

Given that yesterday was election day, I'll just say that I have never been a political person!!  I've had one serious talk about politics in my life and quite frankly it scared me a bit!  I also watched those presidential debates and they made me uncomfortable as well, so I choose to avoid politics as a whole.  Politics has been all over Facebook, Twitter and the news since forever!!  I am here to tell you, that whether you voted Obama or Romney, Red or Blue...whoever got the job is royally screwed anyway!!! This country is in the shitter and needs to turn around fast!!  But I am also not gonna be one to yell at my TV every night when I'm watching Nightly News with Brian Williams...so I'll just keep my fingers crossed!! And I should keep in mind what my parents are always telling me...I should just be thankful I have a job (even if it only pays one step above the unemployment wage),I have a roof over my head and clothes on my back and I am healthy!!  Because right now even some of the wealthiest in our country don't have that (Thank you, Sandy...you bitch)  And on a side note, I think George Clooney should run for president and Ben Affleck, his vice!  I would have no problem listening to the two of them speak!!  I'd be the first one lining up to be an intern in that White House!!  ;)

In closing this little rant, I should say, that I don't care about your religion, your political party, nationality etc....if we can shoot the shit, have a few beers or a couple of cocktails together and laugh our asses off...then we can be friends!!  Why not??

Speaking of friends, I just want to make one quick point, related to Facebook, because if you are reading this, then we must be facebook friends!   Perhaps you're someone who I've known since second grade when I had pink glasses with smurf decals.  Or from high school, where we sat in our lockers down in the basement  and did our HW on the Senior stairs. To college, where you know I drank way too much!! And now, so many of you know me in my everyday adult life!! And hell, now that I think about it, some of you knew me when I was still in diapers!!!  EEEKKK!!!
But anyway... If you know me, REALLY know me, than you know that half the time I post statuses that are song lyrics and half the time I post just to be FUNNY!!!!!!! I don't ever mean to offend anyone and I don't need to be preached at!!  And I do care very much about the victims of Hurricane Sandy!!!!  I have been housing one for the last week and a half!!
Thank you very much!!
If I'm someone you asked to be your friend just to "up" your "friend quota"...please delete me!!

I will get off my soapbox now!!  And thank you for being a friend!!!

Funny story to end with because it just so perfectly illustrates my solitary life so well!!

Doing laundry the other day, my washer went all "Mr. Mom" on me (You have to remember that movie!!).  Banging and shaking and all that!  Then I heard a boom and a crash!  The laundry detergent bottle fell from the top of the dryer (I have a little double decker type thing) and down onto the floor, with such force that the top popped and cracked into a million little pieces.  By the time I got to it, the entire bottle (it was brand new) was soaking into my rug!! Over the last three days I have spent hours trying to clean it up, but am still left with a big blue mess on my carpet!  (It couldn't have been the free and clear one!!??!! damnit!!)   And it is looking really terrible!!  Ever since then I have been finding spots on my walls of detergent spatter and shards of the top of the cap all over the place!!  Disaster!!  And I am afraid to use too much water on it because I don't want mold and mildew growing under my carpet.  Or my sister's steamer because I'm afraid it will ruin the thing!  My dad suggested replacing the whole carpet wouldn't be too expensive.  At first I thought he was outta his mind, then I thought perhaps that wouldn't be a terrible idea because it is apartment carpeting and it's not at all cooshy underneath!!  But for now, I will live with my big blue blob!! And curse at the thing every time I walk by!!

Thanks for reading!!  I hope you and your families weathered the storm well and my fingers are crossed for those who have yet to have the power back, that it returns soon!  My fingers are also crossed for the rest of us that the damn power stays on....perhaps this wasn't the best year to move into an apartment in my little WALKABLE town....ugh!!

Until next time friends!!

The blog before the storm!!

Batten down the hatches people....SANDY is coming!!!  Whatta bitch, huh?

As much as I love the prospect of no school at some point next week I could really do without the thought of being evacuated from the apartment sweet apartment (I do live close to the water now!) and the people out there who are acting like this is the apocalypse!!  I mean c'mon!!

When my mother heard I was not really prepared for the storm the way I should be (see this morning's facebook status!) she suggested I go to the store and buy some candles!!  Big mistake!  Don't get me wrong...there were plenty of candles there.  People at this store were only looking for batteries and flashlights...and milk!  And I kinda wanted to tell that guy, "Sir, those four gallons of milk you are buying right now are all gonna stink up your fridge when the power goes out!!" but alas I kept my mouth shut.  The thing about this store, is that it only has one register (seriously!), so on a day like today, I waited on line awhile.  Because some old lady (who cut me by the way!) paid in all singles, then didn't have enough money!!  Just my luck!!  I did however, chat it up with a nice woman while I waited.  We discussed our hatred of Halloween and she said she really hoped we didn't get this storm!  Clearly, she has no television at home!!  I told her it was coming!  She also said I had a beautiful ring and wanted to know if it was my wedding ring.  I told her no, but I was available to meet her son, if she had one! HAHAHA...just kidding!! So now I am prepared for the storm with some very large candles and a flashlight!  And plenty of alcohol!  I figure if the electricity goes out, I can just drink a lot, pass out and sleep...not sit around in the dark all day!  And I think Gus has already started boarding up his windows!!  I mean, really he can't be serious!!  But I keep hearing a drilling sound and he keeps dropping shit!!  Construction is not his thing!

As I am writing this, I am eating ice cream.  Partly because I feel I have to eat it because if we lose power it will melt and partly because I woke up with a really bad sore throat and I can't really move my neck.  I thought the sore throat and the neck pain went hand in hand but now I have a different theory...I'll get back to this in a bit!!

Last night there was activity night for grades Pre-K to 2, so I rushed home and had to change into my costume, that was really not a costume...but more on that in a minute!  SO...I wore these new knee high boots to school yesterday, and I go to take them off...I get the left one off just fine but I could not for the life of me get the right one off!!  And I am not stupid...I did try to use the "left foot, on the right heel usual maneuver", multiple times and almost broke my toes!!   I started to panic and break into a sweat....what was going to do?  After about 20 minutes of this, I did the only thing I could think of!  I put my left boot back on, then tried the heel thing again...and it worked!!  I know as you are reading this I can tell you are thinking this all sounds a bit ridiculous....and I totally agree...but not as ridiculous as what happened later!!

Back to my costume that was not a costume... I was a cowgirl!  Dressed in something would typically wear to my country concerts!  I wore my cowboy hat, a dress, and my cowboy boots!!  Yes...you read right...I said BOOTS!!!! It happened again!!!  I could not get my cowboy boots off!!!  And this time it was worse!!  The using one boot to get off the other did not work this time due to the thin nature of my boots!!  I can always get off the left boot because that leg is more flexible!  But I can never get the right off!!  I shimmied, shaked, banged, etc!! I texted my sister and told her she might honestly have to come here and pull it off of me!  Because typically, she would!  (Another downside of this solitary life!!)  I can still hear her laughing!!
After about an hour of panicking and freaking out, it finally came off!!  Then it was a shower, glass of wine, and bed for me!!  That was just too stressful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The lesson here is I should never again buy boots that are pull on, no matter how cute!!  I need zippers!!!!!

So back to my sore throat and stiff neck...I thought they were related but now I am thinking that I can't move my neck at all because maybe I PULLED SOMETHING in it when I was trying to get my boot off last night !!!  I was quite the contortionist!!!  ONLY ME PEOPLE!!  ONLY ME!!!  My mom asked me this morning, why I didn't just go ask a neighbor to pull it off...and she was not kidding!!  Could you imagine???  LOL

Damn...I meant to get a heating pad while I was out!!!

Never a dull moment!

Until next time...be safe in Sandy and thanks for reading!!

My worst nightmare...

My worst nightmare came true!!  Last Tuesday after the long weekend, I overslept...like severely...I woke up and saw my clock said 7:20 and had a lil' heart attack!  So needless to say, I was late to school (even though I live so close!!)  It was 8:00 as I am waltzing down the road and as I go to cross the street a student and his mother (and their damn dog!!!) see me!!  This child is a wonderful boy who I had as a second grader last year.  He is a ball of energy and was so excited to see me, (because really...he couldn't believe his eyes!!), he was hootin' and hollering that he saw me and waving hello and screaming my name!!  Of course I said good morning to them...and their little dog too, as I ran passed them to get over to the building!!  Later I saw his mom when she came to volunteer for lunch and she so kindly asked if I needed a ride home that day!!  LOL  She also said she told her son to stop bugging me because she saw my determined look and my fast pace!!  I just have to laugh!!!

Wednesday I walked to school in the rain!  it wasn't bad at all...I went 23 days with no rain, so I can't complain, And a little rain never hurt anyone!!

Thursday was such a fun day.  I was dreading the day beforehand but I had a fabulous day at AdventureLand with the 7th graders.  And I went on a ride...yes, singular, 1...the one ride there that is a roller coaster and not so spiny!!  It was a split second, rash decision, but I did it!!  Friday my back and neck began to hurt though and I thought to myself...you're not as young as you once were!!  :(

I do have to say I had a great day and not to be bias, but I think the kids from my school are the BEST!!  They enjoyed it, were kind and respectful to all their teachers and they actually wanted to hang out with one another!!  They did not run around, yell and scream or run away from the chaperones ike so many other students I saw there.  All and all a good day, but FREEZING!!!

You might notice that this is my first post, where I did not mention my beloved Bravo.  That's because as I write this I am waiting for my first PeaPod delivery!!  I hope it is all it's cracked up to be!  My sister, who uses it regularly said to make sure I had all my coupons and a tip ready!  What is she crazy??...of course I know I have to tip the guy!!!
Well of course I know this, but this guy is not getting my $20 for a tip!!  I searched through every purse to find random dollars but to no avail!!  I needed change of a $20!!!!  SO I thought to myself...just go to Bravo and pick up the things you left off your Stop and Shop list!!  Nah...didn't wanna do that!  Than I thought, lemme head to Roast for a cup of coffee, it is windy and chilly and I could use the warm-up!  So off I went, with just my $20 in hand (thank god I wasn't abducted!).  On the way to Roast I passed a little shop called YoChi!!  For a split second I thought I couldn't possibly get fro yo at 5:15 before dinner, but then I thought...this place is much closer and will have me home much sooner, to wait for my delivery!!  So in I went!!
Ahhh....the joys of living alone.....Yo Chi for dinner!!  I had intended on saving it, but frozen yogurt is never the same from the freezer!!  :)

I chose the late delivery because I got $2.00 off my order, but I,m  not so sure I'll do this again because it is getting dark and I can't really see and I have to buzz him in!!  My email said I can track my delivery but I can't seem to find it!  Oh well!!

Nothing more to report...Mondays are always my worst days...writing this and recalling all my laughs helped to lessen the blow...hope reading this did the same for you!!

Until next time!!

7:30 Blog Update!

My PeaPod order has arrived!  That could not have been easier!  However I am now drowning in plastic bags!!  And as I was happily putting the groceries away, I realized something!!  I got the big boxes of PopTarts because the 12 pack was on sale this week (same price as the 8...can't beat it!!) and I thought to myself, since I had YoChi before I'll have a PopTart in a bit!  Only problem is.........................I DON'T HAVE A TOASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  What an idiot I am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAAHAHA

I'm back!

I missed a week and now can't remember much of what happened!!  Ugh....

Maybe I should talk about that!!  It is like really terrible...like old lady style, my mind is going!!

Ooohhh...I do remember something!!!

Last Saturday was the Feast of St. Liberata.  A big festival for the people of Patchogue and this year the Italian American of the Year was someone from my Landlord's family so the parade (really just like 5 people) came into our complex!  And I got to pin my dollar on the statue of St. Liberata. (Some crazies pinned 5, 10, 20's on there!!  I could barely afford that damn dollar!!)  Supposedly that's to bring good luck!  That I have yet to see!!  It was pretty funny!!  Too bad it wasn't a nicer day!!

Oh and on Friday, I got to be the crossing guard!!  hahahaahahaaha!!
It was an early dismissal at school, so at 11:30 when my students were walking home, the crossing guard was not there!!  So I was her!!  I laughed the whole time....and found out that those students have a much longer walk then I have!!

This weekend was a Huntington Fall Festival!  To which I went both Friday and Saturday nights!  I heart cover bands!!  LOL  And I only went on Saturday to get my Gavin DeGraw tickets for the Paramount!!  WooHoo!!  After the festival, I slept at my mom and dad's... Sadly I slept better and longer on a pull out couch in their basement, then I do in my own bed.  I am looking into this!!

I am happy to be home today for  my first day off since September!!  What to do? What to do?  You probably guessed!!  I went to Bravo!!!!  ;)
Still quite a crowded little place at noon on a random Monday!!  I just got the staples of what I needed!  I really need to do a big shopping, but I am so against it...lol.  I can't get to much because it is always going bad or moldy!!

And I should be planning and checking emails but I'm not!!  Instead I have begun a little obsession know as Hulu!!!  I have watched all these advanced premieres!!  And I know, all the crap I like is sure to be cancelled!  But if anyone is interested Nashville and Chicago Fire are both on there!  I'll give them both a second watch!!

And can we talk about how bloody damn cold it is!!  I thought I would welcome Fall but I lied!!  I am looking forward to my skinny jeans, sweaters and boots, but it's chilly and I refused to put the heat on in my apartment!!  SO I don't look cute....I am bundled in my sweatshirt and blanket!!  And I will continue to be while I sit and enjoy the rest of my day being a sloth and watching Hulu!  Hopefully your holiday has been more productive than mine!!

So Totally...

BREAKING UP WITH BRAVO!!!!

Really Bravo, really???  NONE of your Fat Free Half and Half's had a date stamp????  I was not going to get it then- how was I supposed to know when it expired?....I instead had to go with the FULL FAT version, which yes, totally tastes different!!

And why, oh, why Bravo do you advertise things in your circular that you DO NOT HAVE????  I was so looking forward to getting Smart Ones at 50% off this week!!!

And who knew the patrons of the Bravo loved Blue Point Pumpkin Ale so much??  So much so that three out of the six pack were stolen!!  LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!  I couldn't get it anyway...my bag was too heavy already.  And I know my bag is heavy BEFORE I check out because I carry my Market Bag with me to shop!!  And I will have you know, I am the ONLY soul in the Bravo who cares about the environment!!  But I may go back tomorrow...Loving my Pumpkin Ale already!!

Bravo was not all bad today however...I did get Mott's juice boxes 2 packs for 5!!  And yes, you read that right....I said Mott's Juice boxes!!!  I need those for my lunch.  I am so over soda...and I refuse to pay $5 for a 12 pack when it used to be three 12 packs for like $6!!!

I do realize that Bravo is not a legit supermarket, but it is just so convenient for me and had served me well thus far...oh well!!

Nothing else to really report this week in my solitary life of Mayhem and Mishaps....oh except if you count my Brita pitcher full of water spilling all over my kitchen counter and down to the floor!!  Causing me to be late for work (which my crossing guard noticed!!!)  Actually I was late to work 3 days last week, all of which my crossing guard friend recognized and commented on!!! I ignored her...she doesn't know I'm a bitch 'til about 10, when I fully wake for the day!!

I also had an incident with my sugar bowl as well.  Instead of fulling my empty sugar bowl with the sugar, I started pouring the five pound bag of sugar into my coffee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  And I didn't notice what I was doing until I had poured about a pound in already!!  What a waste!!!

But I am not going to let any of these mishaps bother me!!  It's the most wonderful time of the year: PREMIERE WEEK!!!  Woo Hoo!!  So tonight, I'm gonna sit my ass on the couch and watch my shows, with a big bowl of ice cream drenched in peanut butter...(not my usual spoonful that I treat myself to)...and enjoy!!!

ttfn!!

Locked in the Library

Back by popular demand!!  A new blog post...

This past week was the first full week back to school and my first week with the kids.  I must admit that not having a homeroom is taking a little bit of getting used to, but I do like the fact that I see and teach every kid in the school!!

My year was already made....on Monday I had my second graders from last year. Before I invited the kids into the library, I lined them up in the hall, but one child peeked in and announced, quite enthusiastically I might add, "MISS MITCHELL, I LOVE WHAT YA DONE WITH THE PLACE!!  I just had to laugh...and was very touched!!

The library has it advantages!  I can modify the same lesson to fit students in grades Pre-K to 4th...reading them all the same book but mixing and matching different activities.  Pre-K was a challenge though!  It was hard for me to explain to them that the Library is a QUIET place, when 2 or 3 of them are screaming their bloody heads off that they miss mommy and daddy!!  But school is new to them, and I know they'll come around!  Plus, I got high marks from the aide, so I guess I wasn't too tough on them!!  I am used to disciplining the bigger kids and there's a reason I was once known as Aunt Beastie!!

I am finding Tech to be bit more daunting (which I'm a little surprised about)!!  But I'll get there!!
The biggest disadvantage is that I miss my friends...lol...I am not where the action is!!

This week back was busy...I was late every night and got no sleep, which meant this weekend I was back to my old lady ways of falling asleep early on Fridays.  This week was also the Meet the Teacher night!  Easy for me, because really no one wanted to come visit me!  LOL
Funny story...for the past two years our principal has given us roses (think Bachelor-style...and every time I wanna yell...I WILL NOT ACCEPT THIS ROSE!!)  This year though, I took mine home and was shocked to remember that I actually had a vase here to put it in.  My delight quickly faded, when I realized the vase was for a DOZEN roses, not one singular, sad rose!  So I put it in the vase and fluffed it up with all it's greenery!!  It looks nice...but if anyone wants to send me 11 roses, I sure as hell won't refuse them!!  :)

An update on my walks to school...
Monday, a friend of mine saw me walking to work, so she swung around and picked me up at the stop light, wondering what the heck I was doing and how on earth my dad (aka: my chauffeur/ chariot of fire) could leave me on the side of the road!...I reminded her I moved...but also found out a student lives in here!  (FAB!!  eeeekkkk!!)

The next day, a woman walking told me she loved my shirt!  Then the crossing guard told me had been looking for me and thanking God I didn't come sooner!  She didn't want me to get soaked by the sprinklers!!  People around here are so nice...even the immigrants I see loading up in trucks every morning to go find work!

Oh and I also met some neighbors.  They moved in right before me.  The woman told me, she had just finished unpacking and that she hates moving!!  But she also said she was gonna invite everyone in our section over for a wine and cheese open house/housewarming type thing.  I told her I would be there!  I love WINE!  But then I thought....IS THIS WHAT THEY DO HERE? SHOULD I HAVE SOMETHING LIKE THIS? THANKS LADY FOR MAKING ME LOOK LIKE THE ANTI-SOCIAL SCHMUCK OF THIS BLOCK!!!  But then I got over it.  Today I met her boyfriend.  He asked me if I liked pork because they were trying the crock pot here for the first time and would have lots left over.  I thanked him kindly...but then I worry, how do I know it's safe??  It could be laced with meth!! (AND this is probably the reason I am so not a people person!!)  Luckily though, it's 7 and a crock pot full of pork has yet to arrive at my door!!

So here it is again the dreaded Sunday night.  It's great having all the kids in the school but having to look at 150 technology surveys from the big kids and create 150 "Taking Care of Books" books for the little ones is NOT FUN!!!  Lots of work ahead of me!  I must go...and turn on my oven fan!!  I thought oven mits were supposed to prevent burns, not go on fire!!  Opppsss!!  The house smells as fabulous as you can imagine!!

Thanks so much for reading and all the positive feedback!!  I do this for shits and giggles, and I'm glad I can give you a chuckle!!

I was kidding...

SO when I originally posted that I was going to start a blog on Facebook, I was KIDDING!!  But the more I thought about it, the more silly things were happening to me.  Half of which I shake my head and laugh at...some of which I'll admit...I've cried about!  (Don't worry Ma...the laughs far out way the tears!!)

Living on my own at 32 should not be new.  I should have taken this step a long, long, long, long time ago!!  But I am catholic school teacher, who doesn't drive and makes way less money then anyone might think!  So my parents, and then my sister, so graciously took me back following college.  And while my wanting to buy a place has been in the works for quite sometime, I thought "Ya know what?!? I have enough saved for a house...for now let me just keep that in savings and use this year's salary to rent."  It was quick, after that...maybe too quick!  LOL

It's been about a month here.  A few things I discovered thus far....

I need a bug catcher!!
There are a lot of bugs here. I don't think this is a buggy place, I just think that with it being summer and all and my apartment being surrounded by trees and shrubs, I'm gonna have bugs!  I've seen spiders and ants and I'm pretty certain I sleep with mosquitos at night.  (No Jean...apparently this is not a one night stand!) I am sure my bug situation has nothing to do with the fact that my front door doesn't close all the way because of my fabulous new mat (Thanks Lauren and Amy!) and by the time I realize it, close to ten minutes have gone by!  Oooppppssss!!

Bug catching made me late for work the other day too!  Not late, late but late on my terms.  If there was ever a day I could be late though, it was last week.  This year, I am teaching library and tech so I didn't have kids last week and now don't have to be there so, so early! BUT...maybe I do!!!  Walking to work at 10 to 8 (Yes...I live that close...), I heard a bunch of footsteps coming up behind me, then rush passed me!!  It was middle school kids who go to the school across from mine!!!
When we reached the corner, THE CROSSING GUARD, let us all go.  Since I had to cross over again...she stopped traffic and let me go AGAIN!  I was a little embarrassed but thought it was funny too.  After this, I decided I would leave much earlier, so as not to meet the middle schoolers or the crossing guard again!!!
The next day....no middle schoolers...but I crossed the street safely with the help of the crossing guard lady!  Or as I now like to refer to her... my new best friend! LOL

Note to self...never buy a top that has a tie in the back or buttons up the back!!  BECAUSE THERE'S NO ONE HERE TO TIE IT OR BUTTON IT FOR YOU!!!!!  Because of my new solitary life, I need to remember this.  I took these things for granted when I lived with others.  Someone was always there to button me, zipper me or tie me up in the back!  I contemplated not wearing that shirt, that day but since I had picked it out the night before (due to my lateness previously) and had no time to think of anything else.  So I did what I could to tie it, went to work disheveled, and asked a friend to tie me in the back!

Me and my Bravo!
I am a big fan of the Bravo supermarket.  Because it's close to me obviously!!!  And they honestly have really good deals.  Like today for example.  I bought all these cans of food for buy one, get one free, 5 for $5 and so on.  I got home with all my groceries and while putting them away realized something:  I DON'T HAVE A CAN OPENER TO OPEN ANY OF THESE! After about a second of laughing at my stupidity, I had nothing to worry about!!!  Out the door I went. To Family Dollar down the road!!!  And got myself the DELUXE can opener...for $2!!  LOL

SO now it's back to being that dreaded 5'oclock on Sunday!  I've planned for tomorrow when I meet my students in Library and Technology, I've watched some football, eating snacks and drinking beer.

My beer is another story!!  My last Shock Top in the fridge I was saving for the JETS game.  I thought about getting more when I was at the Bravo (no Shock Top there, but beer in general) but decided I should go with the canned goods instead!  This would have been fine, IF I didn't spill the beer on the carpet!!  Damn it!!!

Reading this, it might seem that I am not liking living on my own!!  I absolutely am!!  I can take longer showers, I don't need to put on a bra to come out of my room in the morning, and can have dance parties in my living room!! I've also noticed though that I talk to myself a lot, don't really like the quiet, and I LOVE visitors!!

I don't know who'll read this, but if you do I hope you get a lil' kick out of it!  My policy has always been to laugh at myself...so laugh along with me!!

Until next time...if there is a next time,
Katie
